TLC is built on a long history of Australasian executive management, board and consulting experience within top tier ASX listed companies, small and medium enterprises and not-for profit entities. With decades of experience working at senior and executive levels across many organisations, over time, we’ve seen that our contemporary business leadership paradigm of delivering short-term profits and maximum shareholder value at any cost has had its day. The outcomes being produced simply aren’t sustainable – for the companies themselves or for society.
There is now a strongly emergent societal zeitgeist increasingly less tolerant of this that is moving quickly beyond hopeful idealism or short-lived crankiness. An increasing number of investment entities are bowing to pressure from their members in their decisions about where capital is directed. As well, leaders tell us they no longer want to lead in this way, aware too often that they’re making business decisions that serve the short-term interests of their company while imposing too great a level of collateral damage on the broader community. They are uncomfortable continuing to do this.
Despite hundreds of books written and billions invested in leadership development, we’re not seeing significant improvements in leadership effectiveness. This will not happen by leaders becoming cleverer.
As Einstein purportedly stated, a problem cannot be solved from the same level of consciousness that created it. While leaders continue acting from the same level of consciousness, they will continue doing more of the same, no matter what cosmetic appeal is adopted.
There is a different way – we know it rationally as well as intuitively - but most importantly, we know it from our observations and experience. We’ve been practising this different way of leading as well as guiding others in it for many years. There is a vanguard of leaders quietly embracing and exercising this alternative model of lifting their consciousness – becoming different in order to do different. This is not a sop for benign ‘good cause’ zeal at the expense of commercial initiative and discernment.
Rather, it is to attain a higher-level valuing of self and others and a broader, deeper perspective where many of the old either/or conundrums fall away and a previously unimagined, unifying response/solution becomes obvious. This is the pathway to creating buoyant, successful and sustainable enterprises which tread the middle ground of heart-based holism informing head-based acumen. It requires an exceptional level of mastery of self as well as of commercial and organisational levers.
At TLC we understand what leading in this way is, we know how to aspire to and practise it, and we know how to guide others to embrace and live it.

Tim Scholefield
Executive Director
BAppSc, MBA, GAICD, Cert Gov (Risk)
I have worked and continue to work in the commercial and not for profit sectors. Over 30 years I have: been a director, chair of board committees, senior executive and consultant. I have been coached and been a coach, been mentored and been a mentor. I have participated in and led various personal and leadership development/transformation, behavioural and cultural change programs. I have been a member of, developed and led culturally and linguistically diverse teams domestically and internationally, and worked in roles in project and operational delivery, project and asset management, strategy, governance, risk and crisis management. I have been held accountable for managing assets worth billions of dollars and have been involved in acquisitions, divestments, greenfield and brownfield projects ranging in size from USD millions to USD billions.
Prior to 2005 whilst I was strategically adroit and successful, challenges would arise that seemed insurmountable or opportunities that felt unattainable. I started to become curious if there was anything about me that might be contributing to these times of apparent impasse. Through becoming more self-aware in how I engage with and perceive the world, I was able to start to understand the drivers influencing my behaviours, intentions and actions. As a result I had more interest in understanding others’ drivers. I found myself being more open, understanding and inclusive and collaborating better.
This awareness has enabled me to evolve as a leader. I am able to be different in the way I lead and as a result do different in the intentions I set, the culture I instil and the actions I take. I am better able to discern a way forward when faced with impasse and when seeking holistic outcomes.
I have experienced the uplift in performance, improved business outcomes and increased quality of life that this way of being enables.
